Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the world after Mandarin, Spanish, and English. In India, Hindi is the most widely spoken language and is the mother tongue of around 41% of the Indian population. It is the official language of the Indian government and is used in education, media, and entertainment industries.
The Hindi language is very old and has a direct line of evolution to Sanskrit. As such it is part of one of the oldest religious and literary traditions in the world – traditions that have influenced other religions and works of art. Hindi is incredibly important in the historic development of the world’s cultures.
Hindi Diwas falls on 14th September every year. It is a day specially dedicated to our mother tongue, Hindi. This particular date has been chosen for Hindi Diwas because it was on this date in the year 1949 that Hindi was adopted as the official language of the Republic of India. It is celebrated in various schools, colleges, government institutions and other places in different parts of the country.
